51nB60H8-ILMaya Angelou‘s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is an amazing novel that highlights racial prejudice during the 1930s and 1940s in America. Angelou does a phenomenal job in allowing her reader to build a relationship with each of her “characters.” It is an emotionally involved novel/memoir that I feel is necessary for young adults to read to understand how it was to grow up during that time period as a Black girl. What I love the most about this piece of work is that she gives us a peek into her humorous, intelligent, independent and curious personality.
